Since coronavirus has quickly spread all through the world, it has become even more important to protect yourself. This coronavirus is called SARS-CoV-2 and the infection that it causes is called COVID-19.
While some with COVID-19 have a gentle disease, others may encounter trouble breathing, pneumonia, and even respiratory failure. Aged people and carriers are at the most risk.
You may have heard about using face masks to prevent this disease, but
The real question is – are face masks successful and assuming this is the case, when would it be advisable for you to wear them?
The government suggests wearing material face covers in open environment and maintain at least 6 feet distance from people if possible. There is a reason all India lockdown has been ordered.
Why should you use a mask?
- The exceptionally infectious nature of the coronavirus.
- The potential for asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic transmission.
- If you are a medical professional who is taking care of coronavirus positive patients, then the use of good quality masks become mandatory.
When is the mask not necessary?
If you are not sick then you do not need to wear a face mask. In that case, social distancing would do.
Since most of the masks are either sold out or not good to use, the government is trying its best to provide more face masks. Alternatively, you can also use everyday things like turban, handkerchief and dupatta to use as masks. A normal surgical mask would do. However, it is advisable to use an N95 mask for better protection. If you are not used to wearing a mask then you might face some discomfort but try to adjust to it as the coronavirus is highly contagious and prevention is always better than the cure.
Stay at your home, keep your space, and protect your face.
