Overweight and Obesity are nowadays becoming so common in all age groups, may a teenager or middle-aged people. Present lifestyle and food choices are responsible for unintentional weight gain. It releases hormones to help your body regulate and use energy. Your thyroid is responsible for metabolism and for growth and development of your body. Without the right amount of thyroid hormones, your body’s natural functions begin to slow down.

Gestational Diabetes-: During pregnancy, some women develop high blood sugar levels, this condition is known as diabetes mellitus(GDM).
Persistent Depressive Disorder (Dysthymia)-: This is chronic depression, can affect life in many ways like mood swings, change in behavior, and loss of interest in daily physical activities and eating patterns.

Fluid Retention (Edema)-: Causes parts of the body to become swollen, which translates into weight gain. This gain is caused by fluid accumulation in the body. Some types of fluid retention are common – for example if you’re standing for a long period of time or having pre-menstrual symptoms. The swelling can occur in one particular part of the body, such as the ankles, or it can be more general.

Medication-: Some medical concerns and medication like steroids, also known as corticosteroids, are used to treat a variety of conditions, including asthma and arthritis. Long-term use of corticosteroid tablets seems to increase appetite in some people, leading to weight gain. The higher the dose and the longer you are on steroids, you‘re prone to weight gain.

Hormone Havoc-: Some hormonal disorders like endocrine hormones’ disturbances had contributed to weight gain, like Cushing syndrome – rare but affects hormone cortisol, polycystic ovary syndrome-related to hormones-insulin and testosterone.

Aging-: As a person ages, about in middle age -metabolism gets slower and results in weight gain.

Sleep Disorders-: People who take sleep less than 6-7 hours or more than 8-9 hours, are likely to be overweight and have reduced levels of leptin which can control satiety.

It is never too late to be what you might have been or to start over, and it is never too late to be happy. Just go for self-help and seek medical care which may stop or even reverse weight gain. You are capable of self-help by taking fewer calories, making healthy food choices, doing more exercises and monitoring weight. If the condition is out of control, take medical consultation which can help you in the right way. Have a positive approach towards your life; stay active and healthy, “because you worth it”.
